LAS Monthly Program

Our monthly program runs during the school year for girls in grades 2-12. Girls are divided into groups by grade, and will meet with their group once a month to complete a service project that they have planned under the guidance of their mentors. As girls grow through our program, they will learn to have more autonomy and control over their projects. This program teaches young girls leadership, empowerment, and how to make a sustainable difference in their community.

What does the program do?

  • Empower girls to learn about themselves and provide them with opportunities to lead social justice initiatives from program development to project execution.

  • Foster our girls’ leadership identity through our unique adult and teen mentorship program.

  • Engage girls in team building and leadership activities to build confidence and help them learn how to work with their peers.

  • Give girls a place where they can have fun while building self-confidence and learning life skills!

What does the program look like?

  • When a girl joins our program, she will be placed with a small group (based on grade) that will meet monthly, often in the North Dallas area, to do a service project. Each month, one or two girls will have the opportunity to be “Project Leader(s)”, where they take on the responsibility of planning the group’s project and leading the monthly meeting. Groups are led by Teen and Adult Mentors, who guide the girls through projects and help them grow their confidence and leadership skills.

  • Our monthly program is structured to give the girls more autonomy and control over their service projects as they get older, enabling them to truly “own” their projects with confidence. The program culminates in high school, where girls get to choose their own path. Some may go on to create more service projects or focus on a community need that they’re passionate about, others may take on a leadership role or start their own program, and some may want to give back to the younger generations by becoming a Lemon Aide Society Mentor! Girls in 10th-12th grade have the opportunity to take on the role of Teen Mentor and assist one of our younger groups, before having the option to become an Adult Mentor themselves after high school.

Who can join?

  • Our program is for girls in grades 2-12 who have a desire to learn about themselves, their communities, and how they can make a difference in the world.

  • We also have opportunities for older girls and women to get involved! Girls in grades 10-12 can sign up to be Teen Mentors, who have the opportunity to mentor the young girls in their group while also being guided by an older Adult Mentor. Anyone college-age or above can sign up to be an Adult Mentor.
